My watercolour paintings take the shorelines of West Kirby and Thurstaston as their starting point. The west facing coast of the Wirral is a wonderful place to study the ever changing sands and tides of the Dee estuary. The north Wales shoreline in the distance acts as counterpoint to the interplay of light between the sky and the vast expanse of the estuary sands that I try to capture in paint. For each painting, I might produce several versions. I do lots of preliminary work and experimenting to get me to the place where painting becomes instinctive.
